Stone, matha, and seven Mocha seeds
Hoysala east, living shrines on the Tunga, and the coffee story the district still tells.
Why this district
Coffee and stone.

Seven beans from Mocha, a forest that learned to drink
People here still begin the crop with a courtyard. A Sufi of these hills, they say, came home from Mocha with seven live seeds and set them on Baba Budan Giri. One telling puts the year near 1600. Another walks him back from Hajj nearer 1670. The calendars disagree. The ridge does not.

Hoysala stone, Malnad Kannada, a matha on the Tunga
Chikkamagaluru’s east leans toward the Hoysala world: Amruthapura’s Amrutesvara temple of 1196 CE, Belavadi’s Veeranarayana trikuta, and the nearby orbit of Halebidu and Belur. The west and south fold into Malnad pilgrimage, Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Horanadu, Kalasa, where Sanskrit learning and Kannada village life share the same river terrace.
