The story
Akki means rice. The dough is rice flour worked with chopped onion, green chilli, cumin and often coconut, then patted onto a hot tava until the edges crisp. Wikipedia places it in Karnataka, especially the wet-hill kitchens of Malnad and Kodagu, everyday breakfast from the grain that grows in these valleys, cooked without wheat.
